Inspired by a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, about a long-running reading group in which the members read books aloud -- 35 or so pages a meeting -- they've read Dickens, Milton, Tolstoy, Faulkner, the Brontes, Eliot, Austen. In addition to the book we're reading (our first is The Transit of Venus), we've begun meetings by reading other short pieces or poems.
Are there classic books you'd like to read (or re-read) but haven't gotten around to? Do you like to meet new people, discuss books, and have a relaxing drink? At Classics and Cocktails, we read and discuss one classic per month and have a drink (or more if you want) or enjoy some great food at a local restaurant. We do ask that you have at least one drink and/or an appetizer/meal so we can continue to secure a secluded setting for our discussion. Come join us for conversation, cocktails, and m …

This is a group for anyone interested in reading and sharing your thoughts about popular science books. For instance, during each meetup, we shall discuss books like " A brief history of time" or "The tao of physics" or "Cosmos" or "Phantoms in the Brain" etc.. Ideally we should meet somewhere in the liberty state park during a nice sunny weekend and share our opinions while having coffee and snacks. We shall also discuss possibilities of writing popular science and how to improve ours' and othe …

I am no English laureate, but I will try and describe the club the best I can. This club is filled with outgoing young professionals in around their 20s and 30s who enjoy reading when they can find the time. We would like to get together once a month or every two months, depending on the length of the book chosen to read, on the weekend to discuss the book, socialize, and have a good time. This could mean a low key Friday night at a BYOB sushi bar, a Saturday night at a local Pub, or even a nice …

Want to meet other INTJs? INTJs are the rarest (1-2% of general population) and perhaps the least understood of the MBTI personality types. Able to deliver opinions of devastating honesty and absorb criticism with absolutely no blow to their egos, INTJs may find certain business or social situations confusing due to the host of trivial small talk and tribal rituals that mask these situations. Deep inside our grey matter however are competing models of the world fighting for supremacy through w …

Let's watch Game of Thrones together, then talk about it afterward! I'm hosting. If you could bring drinks, chips, cookies, or snacks that would be great, but isn't necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm for the Game and your friendliness toward other enthusiasts--and don't give away any spoilers if you've already read the books! :D
